Don’t Judge a Lizard by His Scales by Dan Dugi & Bli Marston Dugi

Don’t Judge a Lizard by His Scales is adorable! Bli and Danny are very cute characters.  Growing up I always heard children have to be taught to judge others.  Bli and Danny remind Bli’s mother not to make snap judgments.  Assumptions can be wrong.

Bli and Danny are great characters because they are willing to work on changing stereotypes to keep their friendships.   As friends they work together to find a solution to the stereotypes they are facing.

The questions at the end of the story are good for children to expand on lessons learned from Bli and Danny.  The parent questions serve as a reminder for parents to participate in our children’s choices but also be aware of how our feelings and assumptions may affect them.

Don’t Judge a Lizard by His Scales is a well written story that can be used as a read aloud or children can read to themselves as part of an anti-bully lesson.  It is a five star book because of the lesson it teaches and the colorful artwork.  I will happily recommend this book to anyone with children or teaching children.  I hope there are sequels because I would love to read and share them.
