Lockwood & Co., Book 2 The Whispering Skull by Jonathan Stroud

I was gifted Lockwood & Co., Book 2 The Whispering Skull by Jonathan Stroud by Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

As I’m reading this book I must be in partial parent mode.  Parent mode because I keep wondering where the adults are and why the kids are the ghost hunters.  The non-parent mode because I’m loving this adventure and find myself wishing I could have participated when I was the age of some of these kids!

Lucy has to be my favorite character.  She seems to be constantly surprising herself as well as others.  The scene when she throws her rapier and seems to have precision in not hitting the live people while hitting the visitor perfectly…. Amazing!  She is the person the skull has decided to talk to.

I’ve finished and now understand why the skull has decided to talk to Lucy alone.  She is the only one who can hear him!  She is STILL my favorite character.  I don’t know if I could have faced any of the characters she is forced to face.  She may falter, but always finds her strength and remembers her training.

I also understand why the job is held exclusively by kids.  The adults are not able to “see” the visitors and other entities the kids and young adults are able to.

I am giving this book 5 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure!
